When the fussy, cantankerous novelist Charles Condomine hosts a seance one fateful evening as research for his new novel, the eccentric “happy medium," Madame Arcati, ends up accidentally summoning Charles’ vibrant and mischievous first wife, Elvira, a woman well-aware of Charles’ shortcomings and more than willing to wreak some havoc on the proceedings.  But when an unfortunate accident sees Elvira joined on the “other side” by another guest, it seems as if the hapless Charles may have more than his fair share of “blithe spirits” to handle in the future.
